SALVATORE OLENTINO
Salvatore Olentino--known on his East Williamsburg block simply as Sal-- is a living master whose exquisite painterly eye is tuned finely to both the banal and uncanny. Born in 1932 in a town outside of Naples called Vico Equense, Sal migrated from Italy to New York City in 1960. It was the harsh New York winters along with long walks through the MET that inspired him to paint. He is totally self-taught
When questioned about his art, Sal states plainly, “It is what it is... that’s it.” And it’s true that the work speaks for itself. His surreal animals, erotic still lives, and dramatic color palate fosters a sense of both whimsy and darkness. In these discrete spaces viewers are transported to Sal’s world-- an enchanting and eerie domain of pure brilliance. This is Salvatore’s first time showing his work.
