On December 15, muddguts is pleased to announce the opening of Global Warning, a solo show by the illustrious Cali Thornhill Dewitt. A true luminary, Cali has shown his fresh and defiant work internationally, and has received high praise from both his peers and the greater art-world. He lives in Los Angeles, a city that he says inspires and ignites him. Global Warning is Cali’s second solo show at Muddguts. While he has garnered significant attention from fashion moguls and celebrities alike ((he’s collaborated with everyone from Kanye West to Adidas Originals)) Cali’s work remains fundamentally aligned with a DIY ethos, something he credits to a youth spent immersed in punk and hardcore. “In a lot of ways it probably taught me everything. Humor, attitude and general outlook. . . about doing things on your own, the possibility of that. With that ingrained in my subconscious nothing really seems impossible”, he says. As a continuation of Cali’s recent work, Global Warning is a playfully antagonistic rumination on negation, combining the delicate and the graphic.
